So any thoughts on this whole spectacle?

I'll tell you, if James had not made such a circus out of this, I would've been totally unbothered by it all. OR if he had made a circus out of it just to tell everyone that he is staying in Cleveland, I would've been totally unbothered by it.

But gathering millions of people around to watch as he shoved a knife through the heart of Cleveland was just cold and unbecoming. It's like a Roman gladiator slaughtering a hobbled rabbit in front of a packed crowd. And yes, Cleveland is a hobbled rabbit.

However, I completely understand his decision. He's 25, basically his prime, and it is time to stop looking at dollar signs and start chasing a trophy with a group that can deliver it. He did take a pay cut to go play with Wade and Bosh. They all did. so I think they're doing it for the right reasons. And I do have to say, for such a high caliber, alpha male player, Lebron is unselfish with the ball and I think will revel in being able to pass it to a capable player like Wade.

So I get it. And I think all three made a good decision to combine forces to chase down a championship. But goddamn. They really didn't have to do it in such a shitty manner.

Its Cleveland. They deserved it.

Lebron was never going to win a ring there so he went somewhere where he knew he had the best chance. Lebron could have sat there for an hour and cried about how much he hated leaving Cleveland and there would still be people burning his jersey in the streets. Fans are idiots and that is never going to change.

The problem isn't that he left Cleveland. The problem is that he decided to announce this on an hour love I-Love-Me fest. The fact that ESPN agreed to this (and it was them agreeing to it, AND GETTING PAID BY LEBRON'S PEOPLE FOR IT, and not them asking him for it) is ridiculous.

I'm not a fan of the whole thing. Reminds me too much of Brett Favre's "Will I or won't I retire" idiocy.

It was something that Lebron wanted to do and if ESPN didn't jump on it some other channel would have. They knew that it was going to be something a lot of people would watch so they probably made a lot of money off the ad revenue for it. I didn't watch if so I have no idea what he said aside from that he was going to Miami but it must have really made people hate him a lot.
I saw video of people burning his jersey in Cleveland. That seems like a bit of an overreaction to me.

I agree with Julia; going to Miami is fine but do it without all the shameless self-promotion. And really, he didn't have to fuck over Cleveland that badly. He could have just said "yes, Im leaving" so they could move on, and then announce his choice later. But what did we expect? Look at how he acted after the playoff series loss to Boston? And the playoff series loss to Orlando the year before (wouldn't shake hands or congratulate them, just stormed off the court)?

For all the hype and money and talent, he's a big fucking baby. He's self-absorbed and kind of an asshole. But let's be honest here; Kobe has his character flaws, and Jordan certainly had his share of douchebaggery. Sure, this will go down as one of the worst moments in a long history of heartbreak in Cleveland sports history, but if LeBron wins 3 rings in Miami, this won't be his legacy.

I suppose it's still hard for me to imagine James as 7 years younger than I am. But when I look back 7 years ago to when I was 25, I was probably just as stupid. Which makes all that power and money all the more scary. Perhaps the Founding Fathers knew this all too well when they imposed the age limit of 35 on the Senate and Presidency.

Anyhow, as some of you know, Cavs owner Dan Gilbert wrote a pretty scathing open letter to Cav fans and was fined 100,000 big ones by the NBA.

Enter in the spokesman for all black people...nope not Barack Obama...nope not Oprah...Michael Steele?...Chris get out of here. Jesse Jackson. And I quote.

Quote:
“His feelings of betrayal personify a slave master mentality. He sees LeBron as a runaway slave. This is an owner employee relationship—between business partners—and LeBron honored his contract.”

Wow! That is just gorgeous. Um, Jesse, I'm not sure what kind of slave owner paid his slaves 20 million a year. Kind of defeats the whole definition of slavery don't you think. And I don't see Gilbert trying to haul James into court citing the Dred Scott precedent. For god sake shut the fuck up!

Got a kick out of this:

http://www.cnn.com/2010/TECH/web/07/09/ ... =obnetwork

Quote:
(CNN) -- Dear computer users: If you're ever going to write a fuming letter, think twice before setting the font to the oh-so-mockable Comic Sans.

Take it from Dan Gilbert, the owner of the Cleveland Cavaliers, the NBA team that lost its star basketball player, LeBron James, on Thursday night.

After Gilbert posted a rant -- in the cutesy Comic Sans typeface -- about James' departure on NBA.com, bloggers, newspaper writers and Twitter pundits lashed back with a collective message that essentially said this:

Unless you're a fourth-grader, or being ironic, or the author of a comic book, or on vacation from the 1990s, never use that typeface.

On Twitter, discussion of Gilbert's font choice briefly trumped the debate about James' move to the Miami Heat, according to the blog TechCrunch, which posted a screen grab of the trending topics from that messaging site.

One of the blog's writers, MG Siegler, says the font faux pas is especially egregious given how much press Gilbert's letter is receiving.

"Normally a staple among six-year olds and grandmothers, Gilbert for some reason decided to use the font to write what will undoubtedly be the most public message he will ever write," he writes. "And it's too bad, because the content of the message itself is quite good -- very juicy. Gilbert's use of quotes, capitalization, and bolded letters makes it very clear just how pissed off he is."

Siegler calls Comic Sans "probably the worst font ever to grace the computer screen."

I've noticed this font is also popular with government workers.
