Justin and I have been playing the beta release of Nile Online. Similar to the game Travian that I've discussed on the front page, Nile Online is a resource gathering/trading game that has some pretty high hopes for a full online economy with local natural resources.

The beta is free to play and there is a good primer which will get you started.

I haven't had too much time to play with it yet and it is definitely a game that will take you a few days to get into, but maybe if you guys sign up we can start a trade alliance and take over.

It looks like we're all in different nomes, so it'll probably be a while before we'll even be able to trade with each other. Right now I hit a wall with a level 3 palace. I'm gonna need some jewelry and perfume in order to reach level 4, and I don't have access to any of the materials. This is where it'll start to get good. Time to hoard some bread.

I'm pretty much where you are Justin. My special resource is emeralds and I should be able to open up my trade operation pretty soon here.

Cool, if I can reach you, I have some bronze you might want.

I've got cedar, so I'll be able to build boats as soon as I get 25 cedar (though I'm not sure how to build the boats...) so I may be the first to be able to trade with you guys?

I haven't started. I'm going to be gone all next week, so I'm afraid you guys will be pretty advanced by the time I return.

So start one and get a bakery, brickmakers, pottery store and basket store up and running so you can have a big supply when you get back.

I love that there are fucking bronze mines in this game. It took me a minute to realize it, but lol

Uh oh. I just checked. We're so far from each other that it will take around 62 hours to trade. Once I have a couple of extra boats I'll send them your way, but I'm going to have to start with cities close by.

Once we start expanding to second towns we'll be able to have a trading post closer down to you, Julia.

Looks like cedar is the early special resource with the most value. I had to pay out the ass for the only person nearby selling cedar. I still haven't been able to find any gold on the market. I hope when I get this ship built that I'll be able to find some.

Ok well, apparently ships are only good if you have another town and need to transfer merchandise, which makes me not love the trading system already.

So far it seems pretty unbalanced in that, as I mentioned above, if you resource is cedar you've got a monopoly for people looking to build ships. If your resource is leather you can make sandals with that and a naturally occurring resource that everyone else has.

For the rest of us, if you can't get a resource on the market, you're pretty much screwed. I need gold in order to make jewelry to level my main building, but can't find any on the market. Frustrating to say the least.

I found gold! Now I just need emeralds....

I've been buying up all the gold I can afford in my area. Justin is trying to make some perfume right now, but we can't find any Henna. I think I'm going to upgrade my main building and start making a push for a new town for tradind purposes.

I found henna, and I'm trading cedar for oil tomorrow. Some guy sent me a message asking me for cedar, so I said sure, for oil. But still no emeralds.

I'm Kablamber in Djedu (I think). I've only just started so for now I'm just following the guidelines in the primer.

Djedu is the default name of your city. You can change that in your palace. The name that comes before Djedu is where you are.

Ah. Well then, I'm in Bastaro. I'll have to think of a name for my city.

A guy put some henna on the market, but he wants 20 bread per! What a jerk
